Kara Peters Parkinson
Co-Vice-President, Forest School Program Director

Kara Peters Parkinson is a homesteader, homeschooling parent, CNAC trained Forest School Practitioner, and co-founder of GEDREC committed to promoting holistic well being in our communities through nature based learning and  play.

As a program director and facilitator in our FNS sessions, she brings her background in the performing arts, visual art, language arts, botany and herbalism, as well as enthusiasm for outdoor adventures, whittling and other skills, weaving together many modalities and frameworks of understanding to benefit a holistic approach to learning.

Kara has done community work before GEDREC, including sitting on the provincial Council of the Green Party of Manitoba and working for the Manitoba Wilderness Committee advocating for the protection of our natural spaces. She also brings to our organization her skills in graphic design, visual art and web design!

Kara speaks English and French, has learned Mandarin Chinese up to HSK 4 level, and is learning Nehiyawewin (Cree). Incorporating language learning, art, theatre and storytelling into nature-based education is something she is especially passionate about! 

Kara lives in the RM of Piney, in the homeland of the Oceti-Sakowin, Ininew and Anishnaabe people, with her dogs, cats, Kunekune pigs and Nigerian goats on 16o forested acres.
