Kara Peters Parkinson is a CNAC certified Forest and Nature School Practitioner, a lifelong learner, and a homesteading mother committed to promoting holistic well being in our communities through nature based learning and play.
As a program director and facilitator of our FNS sessions, she brings her enthusiasm for outdoor adventures, whittling and woodworking, performing arts, visual art and all kinds of creativity, and a deep lifelong interest in animals, nature and herbalism, weaving together diverse modalities and frameworks of understanding to benefit holistic learning.
Kara's community work before joining GEDREC in 2o22 has included sitting on the provincial Council of the Green Party of Manitoba and working for the Manitoba Wilderness Committee advocating for the protection of our natural spaces. Her background also includes 8 years of child led, emergent and nature based homeschooling.
Kara is passionate about languages and speaks English, French, and conversational Mandarin Chinese to HSK 4 level. She is also studying Nehiyawewin (Cree) and Spanish. Incorporating language learning, art, theatre and storytelling into nature-based education is something she is especially passionate about!
Kara lives in the RM of Piney on 16o forested acres, in the ancestral homeland of the Oceti-Sakowin, Ininew and Anishnaabe people, with her wonderful 15 year old child Aya, two dogs, cats, Kunekune pigs and Nigerian goats.
